I just read http://donnamhuntress.wordpress.com/2014/08/26/35/ and Donna mentions starting a new job and being disappointed to find the ICT does not work. I have had several jobs (casual) in various childcare centres (early learning centres sound more impressive) and I found the same problem. There was little or no ICT opportunities for children and to include technology was seen as not really necessary for children at kindergarten age. With all the emphasis on the development of 21st century skills in government schools – it seems that the ‘little kids’ may be the last to benefit from this. In saying that, I did notice that C & K and 2 privately run centres did include computer access – educational games, electronic microscopes and children could freely use the digital camera to take photos of children involved in activities throughout the day. Maybe it is all a question of money??
